Hop Scotch

I remember as a young child growing up in the rural community known as “The Bland Baptist Community” which was a
part of Edgefield County , South Carolina .

We use to play a game called Hop Scotch. Too or more persons were needed to play this game. We would draw a
diagram on the ground and pick up stones to use as our markers. The objective of the game was to go through ten
block spaces without stepping out or stepping in where the stone was placed. This took balance and patience because
sometime you were on one foot and had to bend to pick up the stone and return to the beginning.

I would like to relate the game of Hop Scotch to some of our church goers. We begin to serve the Lord in one church
and end up in another hopping all over the church community. In the Christian community those people are know as
church hoppers. If these people are offended by the word of God they simply pick their stone (membership) and move
to another block. If that block becomes to narrow, they simply pick up their stone and move to another block.

This is a very dangerous game that they are playing. The word of God says, that all scriptures are given by the
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, rebuke, correction and instruction in righteousness that the
man of God may be thoroughly furnished until all good works until we come into the unity of the faith and the full
measure and statue of Christ.

Some Christians love to play Hop Scotch. They hop out of their duties as the Choir Director, they hop out of their duties
on the Deacon Board. They hop out of their duties as a Trustee. They hop out of their duties as an Usher, etc.
Forgetting the scripture “I’d rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God then to dwell in the tents of the many
wicked.” Some people do not stay in one church long enough for God to balance their lives. The Bible states “A false
weight and balance is an abomination.  A just weight and balance is his delight”. Some people hop out the church
before the ink dries on the enrollment sheet or before they are given the right hand of fellowship all because they are
running from the word of God and the duties that are required when serving God.

Are you one of those persons? Are you playing Hop Scotch? Or are you steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the
work of the Lord?

There is no game known as Hop Scotch in the kingdom of God .

Something to think about.
